Short answer
Every review follows the same eight stages, and each one is labelled either research-based (no hands-on use) or hands-on (we bought and slept on it, with our own photographs and measurements). We never blur the two.
The eight stages
- Identify the buyer question and who the product is actually for.
- Verify the manufacturer's specifications and written policies from their own current pages.
- Compare those claims against reputable independent evidence.
- Examine consumer-feedback patterns without treating anecdotes as proof of frequency.
- Evaluate design, materials, usability, care, ordering, returns, value and limitations.
- Label the review clearly as research-based or hands-on.
- Record every source with an access date and publish a fact-check date.
- Correct material errors promptly and disclose meaningful updates.
Research-based vs hands-on
| Label | What it means | What we will not say |
|---|---|---|
| Research-based | Built from documentation, independent reporting and feedback patterns | “We tested”, “we slept on it”, “after 30 nights” |
| Hands-on | We bought the product, used it, measured it and photographed it | Anything the testing did not actually show |
How we handle things we cannot verify
Unverified facts are marked as unverified. A specification we cannot source is labelled “not published” rather than carrying a plausible-looking number. A page that lacks enough verified material to be genuinely useful stays unpublished or noindex until it does.
Corrections
If you spot an error, use the contact form and include the page and the detail. We correct material errors, note the change, and update the fact-check date.
